Important Things to Know for 2009-2010

    IF YOUR EMPLOYER PARTICIPATES IN THE FLEX CARD FOR HEALTHCARE REIMBURSMENT: ALL HEALTHCARE REIMBURSEMENT PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE A NEW FLEX CARD FOR THE PLAN YEAR BEGINNING 9/1/2009. “BENNY” FLEX CARDS ARE NO LONGER ACTIVE AS OF THE LAST DAY OF THE PRIOR PLAN YEAR, 08/31/2009.   1. MRIC Cafeteria plan year is September 1, 2009 through August 31, 2010.


  2. MGM is the Third Party Administrator (TPA) for MRIC for plan year September 1, 2009 through August 31, 2010.


  3. A Stored Value Flex Card is being added for Medical Reimbursement expenses by certain MRIC ESC’s effective 9.1.09. For a summary of how this card works click on the Benefits and Forms link/Reimbursement Accounts. The cost of the card is $1.50 per month and is either employee or employer funded, depending on your ESC, when applicable. See FSA Limit worksheet under Benefits and Forms link to see if your ESC participates in the Flex Card.


  4. Loyal American Cancer: The cancer plan is changing from an individual platform to a group platform effective 09/01/2009 for those currently on the L-6040 cancer plan. If you or any dependent currently covered on the individual L-6040 cancer plan have an active cancer claim, you will have to remain on the Loyal individual plan until all open claims are closed. If you have a grandfathered plan, those can remain the same. The group plan is guarantee issue (no health questions required) with a 12 month pre-existing condition exclusion.


  5. Unum Disability: New coverage and changes in coverage are subject to pre-existing condition exclusions. For information on this plan, click on the benefits and forms link/Disability/UNUM Disability.


  6. Principal Disability (REGION 16 ONLY): The core STD plan is an employer paid benefit for eligible employees of Region 16. The Buy-up STD and LTD can be elected on a voluntary basis by eligible employees of Region 16. New coverage is subject to evidence of insurability if applying for coverage after your initial eligibility period.


  7. Ft. Dearborn Voluntary Term Life: Currently insured employees and their spouse can increase their current level of coverage by one increment (10,000) up to a maximum 100,000 for employees and up to 50,000 for spouse, based on salary, without evidence of insurability. Evidence of insurability is required for late entrants or for increases in coverage over these amounts.


  8. Plan offerings to MRIC employees for 2009-2010 plan year include: MRIC self-funded Dental Plan with CIGNA, Superior Vision, Unum Disability, Loyal American Cancer, Fort Dearborn Term Life and Accident(AD&D), Texas Life and Flexible Spending Accounts.
